My goal was to create a type specimen book that presents five typefaces in a unique format. My book is inspired by Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s powerful short story, The Yellow Wallpaper. Just as the protagonist in the story becomes increasingly unhinged from reality throughout the story, so too do the typefaces and the illustrations. The featured typefaces, and their arrangement in the layouts and illustrations, progress from more classical at the beginning of the book to more unsettling, edgy, and illogical by the end. The illustrations created with actual vintage wallpapers also pay homage to the plot of The Yellow Wallpaper. The result is conceptually intriguing and provides viewers with a visually engaging way to interact with this classic short story.
